Laying the foundations of ECED on Janusz Korczak grounds

The meeting of the initiating group: Giving shape to the idea of the ECED Centre and the (polish) Year for the Education for Democracy 2025.

On 21 May 2024 the first meeting was held with the participation of the wide ECED initiating circle comprising representatives of the Collegium Nobilium Novum Foundation and Chapter, the Polish Janusz Korczak Association, the Warsaw Institute of Banking and the Polish Economic Society Branch in Poznań – with a view to discussing the ideas of establishing the European Centre for the Education for Democracy and the Year for Democracy 2025.

All the participants emphasised the huge significance of these initiatives in the light of contemporary problems relating to the development of democracy and our safety, and they presented their possibilities and proposals of cooperation. For this long-awaited pro-democratic get-together a special place was selected: the Orphanage run by Janusz Korczak (Henryk Goldszmit) and Stefania Wilczyńska in Warsaw.

It is in there that for 30 years an innovative experiment of practising democracy was carried out – the place where the child’s rights to co-decide about oneself and about the life of the house, and to express one’s opinions and views were respected. The subject of the talks during the said meeting was also preparation for the visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs scheduled for the very next day.
