The Department of Educational Projects is meant to create educational projects, the essence of which is their democratic character.
It rests on the premise that school is one of the fundamental socialising institutions, forming the rudiments of culture and being itself a peculiar cultural laboratory of democracy and of shaping democratic attitudes through the functioning of school community, which, as a result, may resonate onto a more widely construed public sphere.
The task of the department is thus to work out educational projects which can be implemented in educational establishments.
The key aspect of these projects is their holistic character, since democracy in education implies building the culture of democracy encompassing all aspects of education (communication, arrangement of space, the manner of exercising authority, assessment, etc.).
Designing and monitoring education, we will be paying particular attention to such aspects as the agency and independence of students; influence of various entities relating to this institution (parents, learners, etc.) on its functioning; the learner’s, parent’s, teacher’s position, model of management; the school’s relationship with the social environment; the school’s aims; means of assessment; the didactic model realised; “everyday culture”.
The department is headed by:
PhD in humanities (educational science), specialising in the sociology of education and philosophy of education. He also graduated from the College of Unconventional Educational Initiatives in Wrocław. Co-author (along with Professor dr. hab. Szymon Wróbel) of the book School as fiction and other pieces on philosophy of education and monograph Culture of democracy at school. He took part in the European educational Project entitled “Equalising educational disproportions of the youth coming from rural areas”, realised under the Operational Programme Human Capital. Member of The Committee of Pedagogical Sciences at the Polish Academy of Sciences (2015-2019) – Specialist on giving opinions on legal acts and educational Policy of the bodies of central authority, Member of the Section for the policy of higher education and parametrisation of scientific achievements, and the Section for educational policy.
